International Division President Jacque Hinman accepted a top news maker award in May on behalf of our London 2012 client, Sir John Armitt, Chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) at the ENR Award of Excellence gala event.
Jacque remarked that Sir John Armitt gives credit to everyone else for the success of the games. In a video presentation, he thanked his friend Lee McIntire and CH2M HILL for helping design and deliver the London 2012 venues and infrastructure a year ahead of schedule and under budget.
Jacque offered, “While it is true that it was a team effort with 1,600 contractors and about 25,000 people contributing to the engineering and construction aspects of the Olympics, none of it would have happened without a strong client, the Olympic Delivery Authority, and its exceptional chairman, Sir John Armitt.”
She further stated that “It would have been easy to plan, design, and build $15 billion worth of facilities, transport, and infrastructure on top of one of the most contaminated sites in Europe in 6 years, 1 year ahead of schedule and under budget. Well, easy, at least, if that’s what you do for a living.”
Under Sir John’s leadership and his vision, we forever changed this industry in the UK by delivering the most sustainable global sporting event ever, starting with legacy in mind, and delivering the safest major construction project in UK history, among numerous accomplishments.
