In early November, the people of Los Angeles County voted “yes” for Measure M, an investment that will raise up to $120 billion over 40 years for public transit and highway improvements.
This investment will result in a more robust transportation network in the notoriously gridlocked city whose residents spend an average of 80 hours per year stuck in traffic.
Our CH2M staff has stayed close to this development and our Los Angeles client. “Timing is everything,” said CH2M’s Tunnels & Earth Engineering Practice Director Mark Johnson. The day after the vote, the CH2M Global Tunnels & Earth Engineering (TEE) practice teams from the Santa Ana and Los Angeles, California, and London offices gave a 1-hour presentation to senior Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) on the London Crossrail project.
The TEE team saw the opportunity to present our industry-leading services and capabilities to this key client. Currently, CH2M is a key member of the tunnel design team for the Westside Subway Purple Line Extension Project, with responsibility for the design of the main tunnel lining structures and the fire life safety systems. With this expertise, CH2M teams are keeping an eye on current trends and continue to look for opportunities to show value and expertise to clients like LA Metro.
