On June 14, the U.S. Navy announced that CH2M HILL and three other firms were awarded the Navy Global Contingency Construction contract, which provides the Navy with global design-build capacity in response to natural disasters, humanitarian assistance, conflict, or projects with similar characteristics.
The maximum dollar value, including the base period and 4 option years for four contracts, is $800 million, with provisions to issue cost-plus-award-fee or firm-fixed-price task orders.
The contract allows the Navy, on behalf of the Department of Defense and other federal agencies, an immediate response for construction services including airfields and runways, electric power and distribution, communications, water and wastewater treatment, roads, bridges, railroads, medical clinics, pier and waterfront facilities, and environmental restoration. Approximately 60 percent capacity will be used for natural disasters, and 40 percent will be used for miscellaneous work on a worldwide basis.
